Reset Your Energy: The Leader’s Guide to Energy Alignment
Overwhelmed leaders make overwhelmed decisions.
The secret to better leadership isn’t about doing more—it’s about working with your energy and being aligned.
As a former startup executive, I learned this the hard way. In my push to prove myself, meet impossible expectations, and keep the wheels turning, I found myself running on fumes. Sure, I achieved results, but it came at a cost: my health, clarity, and sense of purpose.
Burnout wasn’t just a moment of exhaustion—it was a wake-up call. Success without alignment isn’t sustainable, and leadership without clarity feels like trying to steer a ship in the dark.
When I finally began prioritizing energy alignment and recovery, everything shifted.
The Cost of Misaligned Leadership
Leaders who operate from a place of misalignment often feel stuck in reactive mode—putting out fires instead of focusing on the bigger picture.
This not only drains energy but also clouds decision-making, weakens team dynamics, and impacts overall effectiveness.
I’ve been there—pushing through the chaos, trying to compensate for the sense that I wasn’t enough. But instead of solving the problem, I was depleting myself and my impact.
Three Steps to Reset Your Energy and Lead with Alignment
1️⃣ Audit Your Energy
Before you can reset, you need to assess. Where is your energy going right now? Are you focusing on what truly matters, or are distractions and people-pleasing draining your time? Take stock of what tasks and relationships energize you versus what depletes you.
Action Tip: For one week, track how you spend your time. Set an alarm for every hour and make a quick note of what you did for that last hour when the alarm goes off. Highlight activities that feel aligned and energizing versus draining. Look for trends, patterns, and where to focus your energy to move the needle. Use this clarity to delegate, eliminate, or refocus on what matters most.
2️⃣ Anchor in Your Values
Alignment starts with knowing what matters most. When you’re clear on your values, decisions become less about doing what’s expected and more about doing what feels right for your vision and purpose.
Action Tip: Create your MVP. Write down your top 3 values as a leader. Before making commitments, ask yourself: “Does this align with my values? Will this move me closer to the business and life I want to create?”
3️⃣ Align Your Leadership Practices
Leadership isn’t just about what you do—it’s about how you show up. Aligned leaders inspire trust and create impact simply by being grounded and present. Practices like mindfulness, breathwork, or visualization are more than self-care—they’re essential tools for intentional leadership.
Action Tip: Start your day with 10 minutes of stretching or movement, and end your day with 10 minutes of breathwork or visualization. Picture yourself leading with clarity and calm, achieving those big goals with ease, and watch how this shift transforms your energy throughout the day.
Why Alignment Matters for Leaders
This isn’t just feel-good fluff. Aligned leaders inspire trust, communicate more effectively, and build stronger, more resilient teams. Read: more productive with less energy spent putting out fires.
But alignment isn’t just about work—it’s a reflection of how you show up in every aspect of your life.
Alignment gives you the ability to navigate challenges with calm and clarity, ensuring your decisions resonate with your values and long-term vision.
Alignment is the key to sustainable leadership—and it starts with you.
