What AI Means for Startups

There’s a quiet fear rippling through businesses right now:

What if AI takes over my business?

What if my product or platform becomes irrelevant?

What if my entire industry changes overnight?

It’s not an irrational fear.

Generative AI is moving faster than any tech cycle we’ve seen. Tools that felt experimental twelve months ago are becoming standard in operations, marketing, customer support, and even creative work.

For startups, that’s both exhilarating… and terrifying.

The good news is that we no longer have to do the job of machines. We weren't made to create spreadsheets and move files from one folder to another.

This is our reminder. We have the opportunity to shift our value back to what it means to be human.

Two Types of Conversations I’m Hearing

When I talk to founders lately, I hear two types of conversations:

Fear-based conversations:

  • “We’re behind.”

  • “We need an AI strategy, but we don’t know where to start.”

  • “Is our business model obsolete now?”

  • “Am I obsolete now?”

Growth-focused conversations:

  • “How can we use AI to amplify our best work?”

  • “What human skills will matter most in an AI world?”

  • “Where can we pivot to stay relevant?”

  • “How do we prepare our team’s mindset for change?”

Both conversations are honest and valid. But only one leads you forward.

It’s Not the End. It’s the Shift.

AI won’t erase the value of humans. But it will expose inefficiencies, outdated business models, and leaders who haven’t invested in their own growth.

Human Skills Will Still Lead AI can analyze, automate, and generate. But it can’t replace:

  • Emotional intelligence

  • Visionary thinking

  • Authentic leadership

  • Building trust with people and partners

  • Creativity rooted in real-world context

  • Boutique services that are based on lived experience

If you’re a founder, these skills are your competitive edge.

Purpose Matters More Than Ever

In an AI-saturated world, people will gravitate toward brands and leaders who stand for something beyond efficiency.

→ What do you believe in?

→ What problem are you solving that truly matters?

→ How does your business make humans’ lives better?

→ How are you using AI to support other humans in realizing their purpose?

Purpose won’t just be a nice-to-have. It will be the differentiator when tech alone is no longer unique.

The Biggest Asset You Can Build Right Now: A Growth Mindset

The founders who will thrive in this next wave aren’t the ones who memorize AI tools. They’re the ones who stay adaptable.

A growth mindset means:

✨ Being willing to unlearn old ways of working.

✨ Staying curious, even when things feel uncertain.

✨ Focusing on how tech can amplify your strengths, not replace you.

✨ Believing that your value as a human evolves, rather than disappears.

My Perspective for Startups

Here’s how I see it for startups:

→ Don’t panic about AI replacing you. Focus on how it can scale you.

→ Don’t try to create a product or platform that's on the cutting edge of AI tech - leverage what exists and orient it toward enhancing systems, processes, and experiences.

→ Invest in human skills and systems that make your team nimble.

→ Tie your operations and offers back to purpose, and communicate it clearly.

→ Prepare your people. Because change isn’t just technical. It’s emotional and cultural.

If you’re feeling fear around AI right now, you’re not alone.

But fear can be the spark for your next level of growth.

An Invitation

I work with founders who are navigating these pivotal shifts - operationally, strategically, and personally.
