Taking a Break Isn’t A Luxury
I took a break from social media for most of March. To be completely honest, part of that break was unintentional and frustrating. But part of it was a pre-planned, intentional break. And all of it was exactly the reset I needed.
So before we go any further, I want to remind you that if you're taking an unintentional break - whether it be because of illness, unexpected delays, firedrills, or any other "interruption" - it is needed, and it is for your highest good.
Slowing down creates real momentum.
When you create space, new ideas and opportunities tend to show up, effortlessly.
The end of March is also full of big shifts, energetically and with our Gregorian calendar.
Q2 is here, and with it comes an opportunity to shift gears. If Q1 was all about setting things in motion, Q2 requires intentional resets. Moments to realign, refocus, and return stronger.
(BTW - this momentum you'll create, it's not just for your business. It's for your life.)
I know pausing can seem impossible as a startup exec. But I need you to know that it is possible, and - more than that - it will help you build and scale your business better and faster.
Why High-Performing Leaders Step Back to Move Forward
Taking a break from social media this last month reinforced something I’ve learned over and over again: Pausing is a power move.
Stepping away doesn’t mean you’re losing ground. It means you’re setting yourself up for better decisions, stronger execution, and bigger impact when you return.
Think about it:
Have you ever had your best ideas in the shower, on a walk, or during a conversation outside of work?
Have you noticed how clarity hits when you stop forcing a solution?
Have you experienced burnout because you didn’t give yourself permission to rest?
Your brain and business (and life!) need space. You gain clarity and can see creative solutions only when you create the space.
How to Structure Strategic Reset Moments in Q2
Taking a break doesn’t have to mean disappearing for a month. Leaders who sustain success bake in reset moments regularly. Here’s how:
💡 Daily resets: Intentional energy management.
➡️ Walks, workouts, breath-work, meditations, and building in time between meetings to prepare.
📆 Weekly resets: Intentional calendar management.
➡️ One day a week blocked (no meetings!) to think, learn, handle firedrills, and make space for unexpected opportunities.
⏳ Quarterly resets: A pre-planned full day or weekend away.
➡️ Unplug completely. Step back, zoom out, and return refreshed. (This will also push you to document and delegate - and then test it out!)
🏝 Big resets: A week or more away, at least 2x per year.
➡️ Vacations or retreats designed to expand vision and strategy.
What I really want to emphasize here is that you're creating a business. An asset. As much blood, sweat, and tears as you put into growing your startup, it is not an extension of you.
Pre-planning and being intentional with breaks, helps push you and your team to build out the systems and processes that will allow the business to scale, and ensure you are not the bottleneck.
The best leaders reset proactively, ensuring they’re always operating from a place of clarity and power.
Your Q2 Challenge: Design Your Reset Strategy
As we enter this new quarter, ask yourself:
➡️ Where am I forcing momentum instead of creating space for clarity?
➡️ What type of reset would serve me best right now?
➡️ How can I structure my time so that I operate from power, not depletion?
And if you've read this far, I want to gift you with my biggest power move from my reset this month: Turn off your notifications.
Take back your control of your time and energy. Every 'ding' or buzz or banner is a distraction and an energy leak.
And your next level of success isn’t just about what you do. It’s about how well you manage your energy.
✨ This quarter, lead differently. Step back strategically. Watch what happens.
